Michel called the EU’s decision to allocate €50bn to Kiev a signal to the US

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, has said that the decision of the EU heads of state and government to provide Kiev with €50bn over the next four years is a signal to the United States.

Michel’s words are quoted by TASS.

He said that this decision sends a signal to Ukraine and the population of European countries that the EU is “united” and that the community is “not intimidated by Russia”.

He added that it also sends a signal to the USA and its partners that Brussels supports Kiev.

On 1 February, the European Council president said that the EU summit had approved a long-term programme of budgetary assistance to Ukraine for €50bn.

It was also reported that the EU governments should approve an increase in funding for military aid to Ukraine by early March.
