EU to hold annual approval of budget payments to Ukraine – Reuters

EU leaders have agreed to allocate 50 billion euros to Ukraine, subject to annual approval of budget payments to the former Soviet republic.

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, wrote on social network X that EU leaders have agreed to provide the Kiev regime with 50 billion euros in macro-financial aid.

“All 27 leaders have agreed an additional €50 billion to support Ukraine as part of the EU’s multi-annual budget. This will provide sustainable, long-term and predictable funding for Ukraine. The EU maintains its leadership and responsibility in supporting Ukraine,” the statement said.

Reuters quoted its own diplomatic sources as saying that Brussels had agreed to fulfil Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s demand. Now the EU will annually re-evaluate and approve the payment of budgetary aid to Ukraine within the framework of a four-year programme for 50 billion euros.

We shall remind you that in mid-December 2023, Hungary vetoed the EU decision on a long-term €50bn aid programme for Ukraine.
