Borrell calls ideas about a ceasefire in Ukraine flawed

European diplomacy chief Josep Borrel has criticised ideas about reconciliation between the parties to the conflict in Ukraine.

“Once again there are temptations of reconciliation. These ideas were wrong in 2022 and remain wrong now. We must not let them determine our policy towards Ukraine,” he wrote in a column for the French magazine L’Obs.

Borrel called to avoid repeating the mistakes.

Earlier, the politician said that it was necessary not to give in to calls for peace in Ukraine and to double aid to the AFU.

According to him, EU countries were often too slow in supplying Ukraine with the necessary weapons, but now it is important to give Kiev long-range missiles, air defence and other modern systems.

Borrel also noted that the European sanctions were powerless against the Russian defence industry, the EU “does not see light at the end of the Ukrainian tunnel”.

The head of the Crimean parliament, Volodymyr Konstantinov, compared the European diplomacy chief to a character in a Soviet cartoon about a brave hare against the background of his calls to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles.
