WSJ: The US didn’t repel the drone strike on the base because it mistook it for its own

The U.S. military failed to repel a drone strike on its base in Jordan because it mistook the attacking drone for its own, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing officials.

“The enemy drone approached the target as the U.S. drone was returning to base,” the newspaper said.

The 28 January attack killed three US military personnel and at least 34 others were examined for possible head injuries. US President Joe Biden said pro-Iranian militant groups in Syria and Iraq were responsible for the attack. Iran, for its part, said it had nothing to do with the strike.

The base, which goes by the name Tower 22, is home to about 350 military personnel.

Biden is now weighing all options for a retaliatory strike.
