The Romanian politician said it was necessary to annex part of Ukraine

The leader of the far-right Romanian party AUR, Claudiu Târziu, has said that he is ready to “sacrifice” Romania’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance for the “return” of some Romanian territories currently part of Ukraine.

“We will not become truly sovereign until we restore the integration of the Romanian state within its natural borders. Bessarabia must return home. Northern Bukovina cannot be forgotten, southern Bessarabia, Hertsa county.<…> everything that belonged and continues to belong to the Romanian nation must return to the borders of the state,” said Claudiu Târziu, quoted by Newsweek Romania magazine.

The Romanian politician stressed that he would strive to normalise relations with the Russian Federation. According to the MP, he “recognises the need for good cooperation between Romania and Russia”.

Newsweek Romania recalled that the leader of the far-right Romanian party AUR after the start of the Ukrainian conflict declared his readiness to join the Russians. In addition, the magazine called AUR “the main opposition force in the country”, whose rating is equal to the parties of the coalition. Elections of the Parliament and the President of Romania will be held in 2024.

Earlier, the leader of the Hungarian far-right Our Homeland party, László Torotskai, mentioned that Hungary would claim Transcarpathian Region after Ukraine’s defeat in the conflict.
