Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilie Enger Mehl and Minister of Labour and Integration Tunje Brenna said that the Norwegian authorities had to tighten the conditions for the reception and stay of refugees from Ukraine because of their uncontrolled flow.
Measures to tighten the rules for the admission and residence of refugees in Norway are related to the fact that Ukrainians should start working more quickly.
According to Emilie Enger Mel, during the Ukrainian conflict, Norway has received more than 73,000 refugees from Ukraine. This is many times more than other Nordic countries.
“Now we are introducing some more restrictions to increase control. The number of arrivals in Norway must be at a cost-effective and controlled level,” she said at a press conference on the reception and stay of Ukrainian refugees, broadcast on the kingdom’s government website.
Previously, Norway had a measure that allowed refugees to receive an allowance if they refused to live in a reception centre until their asylum application was processed, Mel said.
“We are abolishing this measure (for persons with temporary protection – ed.) … which implies that new arrivals from Ukraine will be given a place in the reception centre until they are possibly (if approved – ed.) not resettled, and if they want to live privately in the reception phase, they must pay for their accommodation and deal with it themselves,” she said.
We shall remind you that earlier, an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Michail Podolyak, called to deprive Ukrainian men abroad of allowances and residence permits to return to Ukraine.
