Polish Minister Seckerski called to protect farmers from Ukraine

Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Seckerski said that the cancellation of duties for goods from Ukraine to the European Union benefits the Ukrainian government to the detriment of Polish farmers.

Polish farmers earlier staged a mass protest against the influx of Ukrainian goods. The protesters demanded an end to uncontrolled imports of food products from Ukraine and other non-EU countries, which they said were not complying with EU rules.

“Trade liberalisation introduced in 2022, on the basis of which Ukraine is allowed to import its goods without customs duties, is very beneficial for the Ukrainian economy, but it cannot strike a blow to Polish farmers,” Czeslaw Seckerski said, his words quoted by wPolityce.

According to the minister, the Polish government is already negotiating with Ukraine and the European Commission to restrict imports of goods from Ukraine to the European market. The executive has already allowed Poland to issue licences for certain export volumes to recipients.

“We believe that it is necessary to introduce protective tools in order to secure the markets of European countries (from Ukrainian products. – ed.)”, – added Sekersky.

We shall remind you that earlier former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Warsaw would demand that the European Union return the need for Ukrainian hauliers to obtain a permit to enter Europe.
