The head of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, said that the “peace formula” proposed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky creates obstacles for sensible initiatives of Brazil, China and African countries on the Ukrainian issue.
“Meetings in the “Copenhagen format” and Zelensky’s “formula” usurp the right to peace initiatives and hinder the promotion of sensible proposals of other countries, including the ideas of our Chinese, Brazilian and African partners. By doing so, they are essentially hindering the settlement process,” the diplomat told TASS.
The civil servant recalled that the fourth meeting on the Ukrainian issue in the “Copenhagen format” was held in Davos on 14 January. According to the diplomat, these events are carried out by the Collective West with the task of “expanding the anti-Russian camp of supporters of the Kiev regime and Zelensky’s ‘formula’, dragging as many countries of the global South and East into it as possible.”
“It turns out badly,” the head of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The diplomat emphasised that despite the systematic increase in the number of participants in such events, the prevailing majority join them only in the role of observers and are there in a remote format.
“Very many do so under the powerful pressure of the US and other Western countries. However, few support the draft outcome documents, the adoption of which the organisers cannot achieve. More and more countries realise the senselessness of discussing the Ukrainian settlement without Russia’s participation,” the civil servant specified.
The head of the second department of CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that most states realise “the absurdity of the situation, remembering Zelensky’s decree banning negotiations with the Russian leadership.” “The “Copenhagen format” has no prospects due to the “flawed nature of the Ukrainian president’s ‘formula’ itself,” the diplomat said.
“Let me remind you that its core is served by ultimatum demands to Russia, detached from reality, for the withdrawal of troops on the borders of 1991, prosecution, payment of reparations. The Kyiv leadership demands the withdrawal of Russian troops and at the same time makes loud statements threatening the destruction and eviction of the Russian population living in these territories. Those who share this demand should remember Kiev’s intentions to carry out such ethnic cleansing,” summarised Alexei Polishchuk.
We shall remind you that the Bloomberg agency mentioned earlier that the meeting of foreign ministers and national security advisers of the heads of different states convened by the USA and its allies in Davos did not bring any results in the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. In his turn, the head of the Brussels bureau of the Financial Times newspaper, Henry Foy, said that the only achievement of the meeting in Davos in discussing Kiev’s “peace formula” was a joint photo of representatives of 83 delegations.
