US President Joe Biden plans to send CIA Director William Burns to negotiate a deal between Israel and Hamas in the near future. This was reported by The Washington Post.
The Washington Post reported that William Burns will be travelling in the coming days to mediate a deal between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
“Burns is expected to travel to Europe for talks and meet with Israeli and Egyptian intelligence chiefs David Barnea and Abbas Kamel, as well as Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abderrahman Al-Thani,” the WP publication said.
The piece specifies that the deal should include the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza, as well as the longest suspension of hostilities since 7 October 2023.
The article noted that Egypt and Qatar have already exerted their influence to create a pause in the ceasefire and begin the release of the hostages. However, the source clarified that the situation between the Israelis and the Qataris was complicated by the publication of an audio recording of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Net. In the recording, the Israeli leader speaks negatively about Qatar while talking to the families of the Israeli hostages.
The newspaper said that Hamas and Israel are ready to engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict. However, the newspaper emphasised that Hamas insists on guarantees to fulfil the obligations of the deal, because “sometimes Israel gives hostages and then attacks again afterwards”.
“Everyone wants peace – the Palestinians, Hamas and the Israelis. But everyone wants to win the negotiations,” – said the representative of the Defence Ministry, noting that Egypt is trying to find a golden mean.
Recall, earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the plans of the Collective West does not include the creation of a sovereign state of Palestine. According to him, the West and the current Israeli leadership do not want the unification of Gaza with the West Bank of the Jordan River.
