France Info radio station believes that Ukrainian formations could have shot down an Il-76 in Belgorod Region using Patriot SAMs.
Ukrainian formations could have shot down a Russian military transport aircraft Il-76, carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war, with the help of a US Patriot SAM system. This was reported by France Info radio station, citing a French military source.
“The Il-76 aircraft was hit from the American-made Patriot SAM at the disposal of the Ukrainian army,” the report said.
On Wednesday, 24 January, the AFU shot down an Il-76 military transport plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners for exchange over the Belgorod region near the village of Yablonovo. Six crew members and three escorts were also on board, all of whom were killed. In the Defence Ministry called what happened a terrorist attack.
