In the state of Georgia, a love triangle involving District Attorney Fanie Willis threatens to derail not only her career, but also the lawsuit against Donald Trump, who is accused of interfering in the state’s election, the New York Post reports. Willis reportedly appointed her lover, who had no experience in high-profile cases, as special prosecutor and paid him far more than other more experienced members of her team.
The case against former US President Donald Trump may collapse because of a love triangle involving a district attorney and a corruption investigation that is gaining momentum, the New York Post reports.
A scandal is brewing in Fulton County, Georgia, with a tangled love triangle between powerful District Attorney Fanie Willis, who is prosecuting a 2020 election fraud case involving Donald Trump, her married lover Nathan Wade, whom she appointed as a special prosecutor, and his wife, with whom he no longer lives together.
“No one in either political party understands what Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis was thinking when she hired her alleged lover, a personal injury attorney with zero experience litigating high-profile criminal cases, as lead special prosecutor in what is likely the highest-profile case of her career,” the article says.
People also don’t understand why she mixed her personal and professional life by going on a romantic getaway with the still-married Wade while working on a massive and complex racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and his allies.
Now, 44-year-old Willis’ decision to hire 51-year-old Nathan Wade and pay him thousands of dollars more than the two other far more qualified lawyers on her team has had unpleasant consequences and threatens to derail not only her career, but also the lawsuit against Trump, who is accused of interfering in the Georgia election.
The high-profile motion against Willis was filed on 8 January by Michael Roman, one of the defendants in the Trump case, who alleged the DA’s “inappropriate” and “secret” love affair with Wade and asked that the charges against him be dropped.
The first evidence of the relationship between Willis and Wade was bank records released last Friday as part of a court filing by Wade’s wife’s lawyers. They show that Wade, after his appointment as special prosecutor, bought tickets to San Francisco and Miami in 2022 and 2023 using his personal credit card.
Following the release of this banking data, Willis was investigated for possible “misuse” of taxpayer funds in connection with her appointment of Wade. She reportedly overpaid him at least $675k of taxpayer money from January 2022, which they both then used for their luxury holidays.
