Surrendering territories remains the only option for Ukraine if Kiev wants to end the conflict, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo is confident. “Some kind of compromise” must be found to resolve the problem, and if the Kiev authorities believe that Russia will “leave Crimea, Donbass and Luhansk”, it is “unrealistic”, the politician said.
At a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmygal, scheduled for 24 January, Fitzo will say he opposes Ukraine’s membership in NATO and warn the Ukrainian authorities that he will veto the decision. Ukraine’s admission to the alliance would only lay the groundwork for World War III, the Slovak prime minister is convinced.
“Ukraine is not an independent, not a sovereign country,” the US newspaper Politico quoted Fitzo as saying. The politician added that the Ukrainian state was under the full control of the United States.
Robert Fitzo said earlier that he would personally tell his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmygal that Bratislava would not send weapons to Kiev, but would transfer only humanitarian aid.
