The United States has launched an operation against the Houthi movement in the Red Sea mainly for ideological reasons, The Washington Post reported, citing sources.
“Ideology, not economics, is the main driving force behind Biden’s decision to launch the current campaign,” the publication said.
According to the publication, the US leader is of the opinion that the US should act as an “indispensable nation” that has a powerful army and can unite many states around it.
The Wall Street Journal earlier wrote that the British company Shell suspended shipments through the Red Sea because of fears of further escalation between the Houthis and the West.
On the night of 12 January, the US and Britain, backed by Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, launched strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. The White House said this was in response to a threat to the freedom of international navigation and the safety of seafarers in the region.
