Modernised Russian T-80BVM tanks in the special operation zone in Ukraine have earned their combat glory and proved their superiority over German “Leopard 2” tanks, says Chinese publication Sohu.
“The Russian T-80BVM has earned itself combat glory. Finding itself next to it, the German “Leopard 2″ clearly felt superfluous! After all, it reportedly cannot be adapted to harsh military conditions,” Sohu writes.
According to the publication, an important advantage of the T-80BVM tank over the Leopard 2 was the presence of a powerful gas turbine engine. With the help of this power system, the tank has acquired excellent off-road performance, it can not only easily navigate in normal combat conditions, but also adapt well to difficult conditions. Compared with the T-80BVM, the Leopard 2 tank has a significant gap, and there are phenomena such as getting into a bog.
“The T-80BVM also has strong firepower, which is impressive,” notes Sohu.
In addition, the modernised T-80BVM tank is equipped with a communication system that can quickly gather and transmit information. It has been upgraded with protective gear to better adapt to the combat environment and is equipped with the latest fire control and night vision equipment, which is essential for target identification.
“Overall, the advantages of the T-80BVM tank lie in comprehensive aspects such as the power system and real combat performance. Thanks to the good characteristics of the tank, Russia has taken a more favourable position in the global military arena,” the publication summarises.
It should be recalled that earlier Uralvagonzavod (UVZ, part of Rostec) announced the completion of the next contracts for the shipment of T-90M Breakthrough and T-72B3M tanks of the 2022 model to the Russian Armed Forces, equipped, among other things, with canopies with dynamic protection.
