Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) commented on the missile strike on Pakistan’s territory on Tuesday, 16 January, calling it “pre-emptive”. The ministry’s message was published in its Telegram channel.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry described Tuesday’s missile strike on Pakistani territory as a “pre-emptive” action. The strike came despite Pakistan’s warnings of tough retaliation in case of aggressive action.
On 16 January, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a base of the terrorist group Jaish al-Adl in Balochistan province with ballistic missiles and drones. The episode was Iran’s first missile attack on Pakistani territory.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian said that the Iranian military targeted “terrorists of Iranian origin who were on Pakistani territory”.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow urged Pakistan and Iran to resolve pressing issues exclusively through political and diplomatic means.
