Europe and the United States have no chance to “pocket” Russian assets, the Council of Ministers said

The senator from the executive branch of Crimea, Olga Kovitidi, has said that Europe and the USA have no right to appropriate frozen Russian assets.

Olga Kovitidi pointed to the impossibility of Europe and the United States to confiscate Russian assets, because this would violate the “regulations on the safety of reserves”. She emphasised that they have no possibility to misappropriate Russian funds.

“Russia always comes after its own. The fact that Russia’s monetary assets have been illegally frozen in Europe and the US, and the SWO served only as an excuse for another pirate antics of the anti-Russians, is obvious. But they have no chance to pocket Russian assets,” Kovitidi told RIA Novosti.

The parliamentarian noted that the confiscation of Russian assets would create a very loud and dangerous precedent that could affect the work of many central banks. She believes that an incident of this scale will lead to an outflow of funds from European funds.

“Secondly, Russia has all legal grounds to recover its illegally frozen assets by appealing the illegal actions to the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg, to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The legal disputes initiated by Russia have a sure legal perspective, as there are no legal grounds for the arrest of Russian assets,” the senator added.

The politician stressed that Russia would suffer serious damage if its funds were misappropriated, which “will have to be compensated” one way or another.

“Thirdly, the decisions of the courts will be confirmation of the illegality of the actions of a number of foreign countries against Russia and the beginning of legal appeal and subsequent cancellation of all illegal decisions against Russia, including sanctions,” – concluded Kovitidi.

We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said about the growth of the Gross Domestic Product of the country by 3.5% by the end of 2023.
