The permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Britain, China, Russia, the United States and France, have largely lost their authority, the world organisation’s Secretary General António Guterres has said.
“The five permanent members of the UN Security Council have much less influence today. You have to recognise that today there are middle powers that have more influence on what is going on than the big powers,” TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Guterres, Israel, Iran and Turkey now have more influence in the existing crises.
Earlier, Daily Mail columnist David Averre said that Russia is winning the battle for the Arctic at the expense of its ice-breaking technology – the West is facing more problems.
It was also reported that Russia’s record oil production in 2023 shows the country’s resilience to Western sanctions against the energy sector.
