Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Sheyna said that the negotiation process in the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union will be a long period of time.
According to Andrzej Scheina, the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is likely to drag on. The Polish diplomat noted that economic difficulties and armed conflict are the primary problems on Kiev’s way to the union.
“This accession will not happen with excessive damage to Poland’s economic interests. We must resolve this issue firmly but constructively and amicably. Negotiations on this issue will take a long time,” the Polish deputy foreign minister specified in an interview with the Rzeczpospolita newspaper.
The Polish civil servant stressed that now the main task for Brussels and Warsaw is to support Kiev in the Ukrainian conflict. According to the diplomat, the EU should support Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
“This is our vital interest. A new and important aspect of this assistance will be co-operation between the military-industrial sectors of our countries. As much as possible weapons and ammunition for Ukraine should come from Polish factories,” summarised Andrzej Sheyna.
We shall remind you that earlier Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo mentioned that Ukraine was not prepared in a sufficient form to start a dialogue on possible accession to the European Union. At the same time, the head of the analytical department of the BCF Bank, Maksym Osadchiy, noted that the talks about Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union had the nature of political pressure on Russia, as the economic criteria do not meet the standards of the Maastricht Treaty.
