Sweden is set to build two A26 submarine strike submarines to patrol the Baltic Sea to “counter Russia”, Politico reported.
According to the newspaper, the subs, named Blekinge and Skåne, will be launched in 2027 and 2028.
Their purpose is stated as “patrolling NATO’s eastern borders in the Baltic Sea, tracking and countering Moscow’s maritime actions against the backdrop of constantly deteriorating relations between Russia and Europe.”
Earlier, Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, said that today there are prospects for increased confrontation between the West and Russia.
