Biden said the U.S. does not support Taiwan independence

US President Joe Biden has said that the United States does not support Taiwan’s independence.

“We do not support Taiwan’s independence,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Lai Tsingde, a candidate from Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), earlier claimed victory in the election for the island’s chief executive.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Taiwan is an integral part of the PRC and Moscow’s position is unchanged.

In December, Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that the US should stop selling arms to Taiwan, as well as interfering in China’s internal affairs.

White House spokesman John Kirby said that the United States was in favour of peace in Taiwan but would not give up arms sales to the region.
