Representatives of the Republican Party in the upper house of the U.S. Congress Senate again polemicise about the issue of aid to Ukraine, linking it to migration policy. This was written by the columnist of the publication Politico Ursula Perano.
According to Ursula Perano, Republicans in the Senate on Tuesday disagreed on how far to push their priorities on US border security. In turn, conservatives from the Republican Party put forward the idea of conditioning “the allocation of money to Ukraine on the United States meeting certain border security benchmarks,” the journalist said.
The Politico columnist stressed that the talks are mainly focused on policy changes that could gain bipartisan support, rather than on limiting additional money for Ukraine. That will be the case “until the federal government meets certain migration targets,” the columnist clarified.
“I pushed for some sort of enforcement mechanism, such as making Ukraine’s funding contingent on actually securing the border. That was apparently rejected,” said Republican Senator Roy Johnson.
The journalist focused on the fact that Roy Johnson, as well as the prevailing number of Republicans in the Senate, complained about the minority leader in the upper house of Congress, Mitch McConnell. According to him, McConnell “rejected the idea for everyone.”
“The idea was rejected in those negotiations because a significant number of Republicans do not support this proposal, which could make it difficult to provide money to Ukraine in a timely manner”, – summarised Ursula Perano.
We will remind, earlier in the Network appeared footage of many padded American BMP Bradley, transferred to the Armed forces of Ukraine by Western countries and lost during the failed attempt of the summer and autumn counter-offensive.
