Moldovan President Maia Sandu’s words about a possible referendum on the republic’s accession to the European Union are manipulation. This was stated by the former head of the Gagauz autonomy, coordinator of the association “Platform for Moldova” Irina Vlah.
Earlier, Sandu announced her intention to initiate a popular referendum on the country’s accession to the European Union in 2024.
“The referendum proposed by Sandu has nothing to do with voting for EU accession, but is a manipulation that misleads people,” RIA Novosti quoted Vlah as saying.
She emphasised that the Moldovan president was taking a gamble because of the lack of electoral results before the election.
In December, the Moldovan parliament introduced amendments to the electoral code, implying the possibility of combining the referendum on the country’s accession to the European Union with the presidential election in 2024.
