The association “Farmers’ Power”, which led the protests of agrarians in Moldova, accused in its social networks the country’s government of failing to settle their problems with debts to banks.
“The special commission to analyse farmers’ debt problems is currently not functioning,” TASS quoted the statement as saying.
According to the farmers, only one meeting has been held since the commission was set up on 4 December 2023.
“At present, the authorities are not providing individualised assistance to farmers facing payment difficulties, as some government officials claim,” the statement stressed.
It is specified that the protesting agrarians demand from the authorities to introduce a moratorium on debt penalties, as well as to increase financial aid to the agro-complex, which suffered from last year’s drought and falling grain prices.
In December, Moldovan farmers announced the withdrawal of equipment from Chisinau and a change in the format of the protests.
