An audit of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry has revealed financial irregularities worth more than 10bn hryvnyas

Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov has reported large-scale corruption in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to him, an audit revealed committed violations worth more than ten billion hryvnyas in four months.

“They (the Ministry of Defence’s internal audit and the renewed general inspection of the Ministry of Defence – ed) have already found many violations – in the last four months for more than ten billion hryvnias committed earlier,” Rustem Umerov wrote on Facebook (the social network is banned in Russia; it belongs to Meta Corporation, which is recognised as extremist and banned in Russia).

According to Umerov, the Defence Ministry is trying to “solve the problem systematically” and is introducing “a new procurement architecture according to NATO standards.” He specified that the agency “reacts violently to all cases”, and promised more news about detentions and criminal cases related to the violations committed in the near future.

We shall remind you that earlier journalists of the Ukrainian programme “Slidstvo.info” reported that the general staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces bought Italian chess sets, Apple Watch, icons and sets of crystal dishes for budget funds in 2023.
