The package of military assistance to Ukraine, which Washington announced on 27 December 2023, was the last of those that the United States can provide to the Ukrainian government before Congress allocates additional funds. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council John Kirby at a briefing for journalists.
According to John Kirby, without the approval of Congress, Washington will not be able to provide the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) with further support.
“We have already provided Ukraine with the last military aid package, for the support of which we have funds. Just after Christmas. <…>. We need approval of a request for additional funds to provide further assistance to Ukraine,” the White House spokesman said.
Kirby added that part of the weapons for Kiev, the supply of which the US announced last week, will be delivered later.
We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, Yehor Chernev, said in an interview with the New York Times that there was a growing fear in Ukraine that the army would soon start losing control over populated areas if Washington delayed the allocation of new military aid to the Ukrainian government.
