WSJ: Ukraine won’t be able to return to 2014 borders in the near future

Ukraine even in the case of continued support from the West will not be able to regain the territories lost since 2014. This is stated in an article by The Wall Street Journal.

The author notes that it is necessary to consider a realistic end to the conflict, as the events of 2023 have clearly shown that Kiev’s goal of regaining the territories lost since 2014 cannot be achieved in the near future.

The article also emphasises that the Ukrainian counter-offensive has failed and the conflict has devastated the West’s defence industrial base.

Earlier, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonīte said that the West’s plans for Ukraine had failed. She noted that Western countries had hoped for a different result.

Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said that the West had changed its position on Ukraine and no longer expected Kiev’s victory.

Before that, Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Economist linked the failure of the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive to an information leak.

According to The Economist, Zelenskyy showed irritation and anger during his interview and drummed his fingers on the table.
