Former Austrian foreign minister says Western position on Ukraine has changed

Former head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Karin Kneissl has said that the West no longer expects Ukraine to win the conflict with Russia.

Karin Kneissl believes that the Western position in the context of the Ukrainian conflict has undergone serious changes. In her opinion, Western leaders have gradually realised that Kiev should not expect to win the conflict with Russia.

The politician stressed that during the events in Ukraine, the West’s opinion had turned in the opposite direction. She added that about a year ago, Western countries unanimously assured that the Russian Federation’s forces were “on the verge of collapse”.

“Now the headlines of publications from the Financial Times to The Economist are asking almost in unison: what happens if Russia wins?” – pointed out the former Austrian foreign minister in an interview with journalist Flavio von Witzleben on his YouTube channel.

Kneissl noted that the Ukrainian counter-offensive launched in 2023 has been unsuccessful, while the Russian Army, on the contrary, is engaged in active confident actions on the front line. She suggests that Russia may eventually declare additional territories liberated from Kiev.

We will remind, earlier the Minister of defence of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu said that the Western equipment turned out to be flawed in the battle against the Armed forces of the Russian Federation. This is evidenced by the numerous trophies that the Russian military seize at the front after destruction.
