Associated Press: Netanyahu announces Gaza war will drag on for ‘many months’

The Jewish head of state has announced that the IDF’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip “will last for many months.” Benjamin Netanyahu also thanked Washington for its military and diplomatic support amid growing international condemnation of his country, the Associated Press reports.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza will continue for “many more months.” He made this statement despite persistent calls from the world community for an end to the bloody conflict, the Associated Press reports.

The Jewish head of state thanked the Biden administration for its continued support, including the second emergency approval of arms sales this month. He also praised Washington for blocking a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry said the IDF’s unprecedented campaign in the region has claimed the lives of more than 21,600 Palestinians. According to the ministry, 165 people were killed in the last 24 hours alone, 70 per cent of whom were women and children.

In addition, the war has forced some 85 per cent of Gazans to flee their homes. Many people have begun to seek refuge in “safe neighbourhoods” designated by Tel Aviv, which have been attacked by the Israeli army, the agency said.

“(The Israeli) occupiers are doing everything to force people to leave,” a resident of one of the Palestinian tent camps told the Associated Press. – They want to break our spirit and will, but they won’t succeed. We are here to stay.
