Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino said that the reasons for Buenos Aires’ refusal to join the BRICS interstate association are practical and ideological.
According to Diana Mondino, Argentina did not accept the invitation to join BRICS for two reasons. Asked whether the decision had an ideological or practical component, the diplomat said: “Both.”
Moreover, the diplomat emphasised that Argentina is experiencing serious economic difficulties. The representative of the Argentine Foreign Ministry noted that Buenos Aires will purposefully seek to improve relations with “liberal democracies”, among which the politician touched upon Israel, the United States, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.
“The purpose of BRICS is to trade with countries with which we already have that <…> But it’s also a question of using time. If one participates in all these organisations, when to work?”, Mondino resented.
Earlier Infobae reported that Argentine President Javier Milay officially rejected the invitation to Buenos Aires to join the BRICS interstate organisation.
