Washington has announced an additional $250 million in military aid to Kiev. U.S. officials believe that this package will be the last if Congress fails to resolve the issue of further funding for Ukraine, the Associated Press reports.
The US has announced additional military aid to Ukraine. According to officials, this 54th package could be the last if Congress fails to approve a supplemental funding bill whose passage has been stalled on Capitol Hill, the Associated Press reports.
The $250 million worth of weapons Washington is giving Kiev includes ammunition, including aircraft, missiles, artillery, anti-tank systems, demolition equipment, medical equipment and spare parts. These items will be provided from the US Department of Defence’s stockpiles, the agency notes.
Pentagon spokesman Garron Garn said there was no more money to replace weapons taken from the department’s stockpiles. “Without additional funding, there will be a shortage of replenishment of US military stocks, which will affect American combat readiness,” the official stressed.
According to him, the US Defence Ministry has no money to replenish the stocks sent to the AFU. Therefore, the agency will have to “carefully evaluate” any future assistance and its impact on the ability of the U.S. military to defend its own country, Garn added.
