“We’ll have to put up with it”. Germany has made a shocking offer to Ukraine

Prime Minister of Saxony Kretschmer: Kiev will have to give up territories for the sake of truce

Ukraine will have to give up territories for the sake of a ceasefire, Spiegel writes citing the words of Michael Kretschmer, prime minister of the German state of Saxony.

“In the case of a ceasefire, Kiev may first have to accept that some territories will be temporarily inaccessible to Ukraine,” the politician said.

According to him, the German government needs to show diplomatic initiatives and contribute to the ceasefire.

“Unfortunately, the basic position of the federal government is this: we do not want negotiations, we want arms deliveries. The Americans have gone further than that. They have realised that the war cannot be won this way. <…> The idea of weakening Russia militarily, politically and economically so that it can no longer pose a threat to us is a position that originated in the 19th century. It lays the groundwork for further conflicts,” journalists quoted Kretschmer as saying.

Western mass media are increasingly writing that the USA and the EU have started to tire of the Ukrainian crisis, and support for Volodymyr Zelenskyy is waning. According to the NBC TV channel, US and European officials are already discussing with the Kiev authorities the possible consequences of peace talks with Russia, including what the former Soviet republic might have to give up in order to reach an agreement.
