Ambassador Nofal: Palestine wants elections despite differences with Hamas

Disagreements with Hamas do not hinder Palestine’s desire to unite and hold legislative and presidential elections. This was announced by the Palestinian ambassador to Russia, Abdelhafiz Nofal.

In comments to RIA Novosti, he emphasised that Hamas is part of the Palestinian people despite the disagreements with the movement.

“All we seek is to unite the ranks of the Palestinians on the basis of the political programme of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Nofal added that Palestine is also seeking to hold legislative and presidential elections in preparation for the launch of a “comprehensive political process.” He, the ambassador said, would help the Palestinians achieve the realisation of legitimate national rights.

Earlier, Nofal ruled out the possibility of a Palestinian decision that involves the secession of the Gaza Strip.
