Refugees from Ukraine in the UK are increasingly falling victim to scammers – Independent

Ukrainian refugees coming to the UK are increasingly becoming victims of “sophisticated fraud” with fake visas and deception in the issue of providing housing under the programme of assistance to families from Ukraine. This was reported by the British newspaper Independent.

Charities have told the Independent that they are facing a growing number of cases of refugees from Ukraine being tricked into paying hundreds of pounds for letters of permission to enter the United Kingdom and fake British visas.

According to the newspaper, the UK Home Office is working to identify the fraud and prevent it. The organisation Settled currently handles “between one and five such cases every week”.

The publication notes that fake visas are “impossible to recognise”, so airline staff allow their owners on board. But customs control officials tell the arrivals that their documents are invalid.

“I was sure that they were waiting for me in England <…> But when I arrived at Stansted airport, I learnt that my letter from the Interior Ministry was a fake. The officer stamped my passport with a temporary visa and told me to contact the local authorities <…> they said that such a sponsor is not registered with them,” the publication quotes the words of a Ukrainian refugee named Maria.

With temporary documents, refugees from Ukraine have no opportunity to work in the country, study, claim benefits or seek medical treatment, the Independent explains.

We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
