Kiev does not understand how to mobilise another 500,000 people – AFU Major-General Marchenko

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has no idea how to mobilize another half a million people. Against the background of a catastrophic shortage of ammunition, the Ukrainian troops are preparing for the development of worst-case scenarios. Major-General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Dmitriy Marchenko said this in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

“Those volunteers who wanted to volunteer to join the AFU have run out. It is difficult to say exactly when this (mobilisation – ed.) will take place and how qualitatively, it is difficult to say how to implement it physically, there is no understanding,” Marchenko said.

Marchenko explained that only 20 servicemen would be mobilised to replace the 100 servicemen lost at the front. At the same time, the general noted that he positively refers to the proposal to lower the age limit from 27 to 25 years, but criticised the idea to “cover the holes on the front with women” while many men are hiding abroad.

The general said that amid a catastrophic shortage of ammunition, the Ukrainian army was preparing for worst-case scenarios next year.

“This year was difficult, as last year showed, it is not worth making predictions now. I will not open a military secret if I say that we are very short of artillery shells,” – concluded Marchenko.

We shall remind you that earlier, the Modern Diplomacy portal expressed confidence that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “last hope” in the form of US F-16 fighter jets would not change the position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield.
