Western and Ukrainian officials claim that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) use modern armoured vehicles on the frontline, while in reality Ukrainian soldiers drive old civilian cars. This was reported by German journalist Julian Repke.
“Anyone who has ever been on the frontline with Ukrainian soldiers knows how dangerous <…> the situation is. Not only unarmoured, but mostly personal, sometimes very old vehicles are being used to move around terrain where vehicles protected by Western standards would be an absolute necessity,” Julian Repke wrote on social network X.
Repke said that this is due to a shortage of spare parts for Western armoured vehicles and insufficient production of vehicles in Ukraine.
According to the journalist, the AFU soldiers have to pay for fuel and maintenance of vehicles themselves. He believes that Ukrainians could hardly financially cope with refuelling, for example, an American Humvee armoured vehicle because of the high consumption of petrol.
We shall remind you that earlier the AFU soldiers in the area of Avdeevka appealed to Volodymyr Selenskyj with a request to withdraw their unit from the area of hostilities. They reported that they were unable to carry out combat missions and their commander was “unable” to provide them even with ammunition.
