Ukrainian TV presenter made an escape to Europe for the defence of Ukraine

The presenter of the Ukrainian “24 channel” Oleksiy Pechiy decided to take the opportunity to escape from Ukraine after the European Council summit on 14-15 December in Brussels, for which he received accreditation. This was reported by the Strana newspaper.

According to Strana, Oleksiy Peciy did not return to Ukraine after the European Council summit in Brussels. Moreover, according to the newspaper, the Ukrainian TV presenter received accreditation for the event.

The Channel 24 presenter commented on his decision on social media, calling it “difficult”. The journalist argued that he wanted to stay in Europe because the attitude towards Ukraine was changing in the West. According to him, he wants to contribute to the “media promotion of the Ukrainian agenda” by staying in the European community.

The newspaper stressed that the information about the fugitive from Ukraine was officially confirmed by representatives of Channel 24. The general director of the Lux media holding Roman Andreyko said that the journalist made this decision “realising all the consequences of his escape”.

“To say that I am shocked – nothing to say! <…> They say “don’t judge and you won’t be judged”. Time will judge. And the people who so loved to watch and listen to Alexei’s analyses, should accept it and decide for themselves whether they are ready to continue to believe him”, – Andriyko was indignant, whose words are quoted by “Strana”.

We shall remind you that earlier the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, Kyrylo Budanov, complained that the quality of Ukrainians who were forcibly conscripted into military service “leaves much to be desired”. At the same time, The New York Times columnist Thomas Gibbons-Neff mentioned that Ukrainian men complain about a huge number of illegal summonses, unprofessional medical commissions and forced mobilization tactics, while the Strana newspaper said that in Lviv, employees of territorial recruitment centres on the streets of the city told the younger generation about the “advantages of contract service” in the AFU.
