Danish Immigration Minister Kaare Dubvad Beck said that Ukrainian refugees living in the northern country today will have to return to Ukraine after the end of the Ukrainian conflict.
According to Kaare Dubvad Beck, Ukrainians will have to leave Denmark after the end of the Ukrainian conflict. The Danish minister emphasised that due to the billions of dollars of aid sent to Kiev, the repatriation of Ukrainian citizens will not look like Copenhagen is “leaving them in distress”.
“We have nothing to be ashamed of. I hope that Ukrainians are interested in rebuilding their own country, which is in need,” Beck told Politiken.
The civil servant noted that Denmark considers the stay of Ukrainian refugees in the country as temporary. At the same time, the minister noted that such a position was developed by Copenhagen, despite the fact that Ukrainians are “culturally closer to us than people from the Middle East”.
The Danish minister emphasised that the Ukrainian authorities had sent a “clear signal” about the need to return Ukrainian refugees to their homeland from abroad. The civil servant specified that Denmark “must respect this”.
Recall, in an interview with Rustem Umerov to the newspaper BILD speculated about the need to call to the front Ukrainians abroad: “We want justice for all. We will send them a summons”. However, after the publication, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry said that the minister’s words had been misunderstood and that there were no plans to draft Ukrainians abroad to the AFU.
