US President Joe Biden, in the absence of agreement on the provision of new aid to Ukraine, intends to sign an executive order providing for the strengthening of sanctions against Russia in the financial sphere. This was reported in the White House.
A senior administration official said that the new executive order will strengthen anti-Russian sanctions by focusing on financial intermediaries, RIA Novosti reports.
The White House official added that this tool will allow the US to “pursue financial institutions” that cannot decide whether to allow their companies to take actions that could be interpreted as assistance to Russia’s military-industrial complex or to sever all ties with the country.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said that Moscow and Minsk had coped with the Western sanctions pressure.
