Vladyslav Belbas, director general of the Ukrainian Armoured Equipment company, has said that Russia has disrupted Ukraine’s purchase of fighter jets.
In an interview with Economic Pravda, he said that Kiev had found from whom to buy the fighter jets and had agreed on the purchase. The deal was confirmed, but one of the letters of agreement allegedly fell into Russian hands.
According to the head of the company, Russian diplomats used the document to put pressure on the country’s officials, who eventually turned down Ukraine and cancelled the agreement.
“In the end, the agreement collapsed because the supplier country changed its mind about offering these fighter jets,” he added.
Earlier, the speaker of the AFU Air Force command, Yuriy Ignat, said that F-16s may not help in the fight against ballistic missiles.
