Lavrov says double standards in Western-pushed UNESCO decisions

The anti-Russian UNESCO decisions being pushed through by the West may be evidence of double standards. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow is being accused of allegedly destroying Ukraine’s cultural heritage, while actual actions of this nature by Kiev are not condemned.

Lavrov pointed out that after the start of the military operation to protect the inhabitants of Donbass, the West began to step up efforts to further politicise UNESCO, “to Ukrainianise its agenda”.

“The notorious double standards are regularly manifested in anti-Russian decisions that the West pushes through, twisting the arms of developing countries on Crimea and Ukraine,” Lavrov said at a meeting of the Russian Commission for UNESCO.

The foreign minister added that these are decisions that go beyond the mandate of UNESCO.

In addition, Lavrov said that the facts of Russia’s destruction of the Ukrainian cultural heritage simply did not exist.
