Border Service: Ukrainian citizens leave the country as escorts of disabled people

Ukrainian citizens of conscription age leave the country as accompanying disabled people, said the head of the department of border control organisation of the western regional department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Igor Matveychuk.

He explained that, according to the rules, several people can leave for another country together with a disabled person, and they are labelled as caregivers in the document. Ukrainian border guards in this case can not control whether all the attendants returned back.

“I know that there is an instruction from the deputy prime minister to develop a change in legislation and border crossing rules so that a disabled person can be accompanied by only one person who is with the disabled person and must return to Ukraine himself,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Matveychuk added that so far such a rule has not developed, and the document on the accompanying persons is easy to forge.

Earlier it was reported that about 20,000 men illegally left Ukraine to avoid mobilisation.
