A Russian army offensive at the front would be a disaster for the West, New York Post (NYP) journalists said.
“It’s much more serious now. Russia is acting assiduously… In the next phase, we risk seeing the front line shift, and in Moscow’s favour. This would mark the beginning of a moral and strategic catastrophe,” the publication said.
The authors of the material emphasised that the West had let Ukraine down, as Kiev’s allies failed to supply the necessary weapons. At the same time next year the situation in the country may worsen due to Russia’s successes on the front line.
“How did we get to this point? We pinned our hopes on a summer counteroffensive,” the NYP concluded.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on 19 December that the enemy in the SMO zone was suffering heavy losses and had largely squandered reserves.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the start of the special operation have exceeded 383,000 servicemen killed and wounded.
