Irish PM says he doesn’t believe Ukraine will join EU soon

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has said in a conversation with pranksters Vovan and Lexus, who identified themselves as a senior African official, that he does not believe Ukraine will join the EU soon.

He reminded that it took Ireland 15-20 years for this to happen and the same situation was with Poland and other Central European countries.

“Any state must meet certain standards in terms of democracy, justice, legal system and economy,” Varadkar added.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership politicised.
