In the Kremlin commented on the new package of EU sanctions against Russia

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the new package of EU anti-Russian sanctions indicates that the resource of areas where they can be introduced is exhausted.

On 18 December, the European Union published a new package of sanctions against Russia, which included economic and personal restrictions, including a ban on imports of Russian diamonds. 147 individuals, including 61 individuals and 86 organisations, fell under the personal sanctions.

“On the whole, of course, the 12th package shows that, let’s say, the resources of those areas where sanctions can be imposed are probably already being exhausted,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to him, Russia was preparing for new sanctions measures and would circumvent the EU sanctions against diamonds.

“As for Russian diamonds, this was predictable, they were preparing for it. I don’t think there are no options to circumvent these sanctions. They are there, they will be implemented,” Peskov stressed.

He added that the most notable in the new package of sanctions is the introduction of restrictions against the Russian society “Znanie”. According to Peskov, “this is the most eloquent evidence of sanctions madness”.

Earlier, Vyacheslav Volodin said that Europe was acting under Washington’s dictation by adopting sanctions against Russia. By its actions, the EU is harming citizens first of all, driving the European economy into recession.
