Zelensky “got involved” in the internal problems of the United States – The Washington Post

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during the past visit to Washington was dragged into the internal politics of the United States. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP).

The Washington Post noted that until the last visit Vladimir Zelensky managed to stay away from the ongoing disputes inside the White House. At the last meeting in Washington, too much was put on the agenda for Ukraine, which did not allow the head of Ukraine to remain “out of the loop” regarding the domestic policy of the States, the author emphasised.

The newspaper reported that in the weeks before Zelensky’s visit, the US Congress had already been debating the topic of support for Kiev. WP stressed that even the Republican Party, which had previously supported Ukraine, began to advocate for reallocation of funds in favour of solving the internal problems of the States with migrants.

“The Ukrainian president, an actor by profession, had hoped that his personal visit – and his star power – could demonstrate the urgency of his request and inspire both parties to act. But the opponents (of the endorsement – ed.) did not budge,” the author wrote.

He published information received from an anonymous US congressional representative, who said that Zelensky looked “calm, collected, but understandably dejected” at the beginning of his speech to Congress. The commentator stressed that once the head of Ukraine got “right into the centre of domestic politics”, he “did not have the usual enthusiasm” and interest in the internal problems of the States.

We shall remind you that earlier the US TV channel ABC criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on 11 October on an unscheduled visit and, in the channel’s opinion, tried to “beg” for another military aid from the Western allies.
