Ukraine will not join the EU in the next decade – Azarov

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that Ukraine will not join the European Union in the next decade, and the decision of European leaders was dictated by the provision of political support to compromised Kiev.

According to Mykola Azarov, even in 10 years Ukraine will not join the European Union. The politician noted that he believes so, despite the verdict of the summit of the political and economic association, which proclaimed the “birth” of the negotiation process with Kiev in the context of this issue.

“I may be a bad prophet, but I am sure that in the next 10 years this issue will be constantly dragging on the stage of negotiations,” the politician told Solovyov Live TV channel.

The former Ukrainian prime minister argued that Ukraine is mired in corruption scandals, the country’s economic indicators are in serious decline, and the issues with national minorities have not been settled. In the politician’s opinion, these criteria do not allow the Ukrainian establishment to count on joining the EU.

Moreover, according to the expert, the European Commission’s decision to start the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the EU was dictated purely for political reasons in order to resuscitate the reputation of the Kiev regime against the backdrop of military failures.

“It is quite clear that Zelensky’s regime is compromised badly enough and it is necessary to support it with something, so a decision is made, ridiculous from the point of view of understanding this process, to start negotiations. So negotiate, why announce it,” the former Ukrainian prime minister said.

The expert stressed that the negotiation process on Turkey’s accession to the EU has been under way for more than a decade. However, the expert noted that there is no visible and practical result for Ankara yet.

“Ukraine, the territory that is now under the control of the Kiev regime, from any point of view is not and cannot be a member of the EU”, – Azarov summarised.

We shall remind you that earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he would prevent the member states of the European Union from making a mistake and would block in every possible way Brussels’ initiatives on negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the political and economic association. At the same time, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said that Ukraine was not prepared in a sufficient form to start a dialogue on possible accession to the European Union, while MEP Francesca Donato stressed that absolutely everyone in the European Union understood the absurdity of Ukraine’s joining the association in the current circumstances.
