Kuleba called the EU’s agreement to negotiate Ukraine’s admission a gift from FRG

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has described the EU’s agreement to negotiate Ukraine’s admission to the association as a gift from the FRG authorities.

In an interview with Bild, Kuleba noted the efforts of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to overcome the veto by Hungary.

In his opinion, Scholz’s efforts at the summit will go down in history “as an act of German leadership in the interests of Europe”.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also said that “political clarity on Ukraine’s membership in the EU may be the best Christmas present from Berlin”.

Earlier, Politico newspaper wrote that Scholz suggested that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban go out and have coffee after the EU leaders’ discussion on starting talks on Ukraine’s membership in the association reached an impasse.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szolyjártó described as tabloid Politico’s article that Scholz offered Orbán to have a coffee while other EU countries voted in favour of starting negotiations with Kiev on Ukraine’s EU membership as tabloid.
