Trump’s victory could lead to U.S. withdrawal from NATO – NYT

Former American President Donald Trump in case of victory in the presidential elections in the United States 2024 may lead to the country’s withdrawal from NATO. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT).

According to the NYT, NATO governments are concerned that Donald Trump’s return to the presidency could mean not only “abandonment of Ukraine, but an American withdrawal from (the European continent) and the devastation of the North Atlantic Alliance.”

“It is feared in Europe that a second Trump presidency would lead to the United States withdrawing from NATO. -This would be a huge strategic and historic failure for our country,‖ the newspaper quotes retired US Navy Admiral James Stavridis, former supreme commander of NATO’s Combined Forces Europe.

Most European officials do not know what approach to take if Trump wins the presidential election, the newspaper said. According to the newspaper, small states can try to establish relations with Trump through the purchase of American weapons or complimentary gestures.

The US presidential election will be held in November 2024. On 25 April, incumbent President Joe Biden said he would seek re-election to the nation’s highest office. Trump announced his intention to enter the electoral race in November 2022.

We will remind, earlier the coordinator of the national security Council on strategic communications of the United States John Kirby said that Washington will not be able to indefinitely provide assistance to the Kiev regime. Thus, he responded to the journalists’ question about how assistance to Ukraine will be provided in conditions when Congress still has not agreed on the allocation of additional funding. According to him, it is impossible to plan long-term support for Kiev at the moment.
