The Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia will resume the indefinite blockade of the only road checkpoint on the border with Ukraine from Monday, 11 December. The action was suspended on 5 December for a meeting with the Slovak transport minister.
The leadership of the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia has decided that it will proceed with the continuation of the protest at the Vyshne Nemecke – Uzhgorod border crossing on 11 December from 15:00 (17:00 Moscow time).
“The management made this decision based on an assessment of the information received and its impact on the Slovak transport market,” the Slovak Road Carriers Union said on Facebook (the social network is owned by Meta, which is recognised as extremist and banned in Russia).
The drivers intend to block the entry of lorries from Ukraine into Slovakia, but the movement of passenger transport will not be restricted.
“We join the protests organised since November 6 in Poland and since December 11 in Hungary,” the association explained.
The Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia first blocked the border for Ukrainian carriers on 16 November. The checkpoint was also blocked from 1 to 5 December. The protest was suspended for a meeting with the Slovak transport minister, after which it was planned to make decisions on further actions.
We shall remind you that earlier RMF FM radio station reported that Polish hauliers blocked the movement of freight transport at three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. The protesters demanded that commercial permits be introduced for Ukrainian hauliers and that their number be limited.
