A representative of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Yuriy Ignat, has said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces expects to receive 150 combat aircraft from the West to replace Soviet-made equipment.
“We are talking about 150 aircraft plus training aircraft – this is the end result, when we have already completely replaced the fleet of Soviet-made equipment,” he said when asked about the number of aircraft Kiev might receive on the air of the Rada TV channel.
As TASS reports his words, the main fighter aircraft that Ukraine should receive will be the US-made F-16. Ignat added that the Ukrainian authorities were also in talks with Stockholm about the transfer of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, reminded that the aircraft supplied by NATO to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Armed Forces.
